Can I work at an archeology site without a degree?

I want to be a historian, I want to learn about ancient cultures, I want to work at a site in egypt or middle east. My pion is in this but I dont have patience for school. I can hardly p a 5 week sped up course for medical. but I want to do this more than anything.
