What position on the cello do you have to be in to play artificial harmonics?
To play artificial harmonics, you're not really in any accepted position (except thumb position). The reason for this is that you always have to move your hand between each note, so the 'position' changes for every note you play in artificial harmonics. Unless you are lucky and have a very long reach between your first and fourth fingers, you will have to create artificial harmonics be stopping the string with your thumb (in thumb oposition, effectively) and lightly touching a perfect fourth above with your little finger (pinky in American). If you have a LONG reach, you might be able to use your forefinger to stop the note instead of your thumb.
